One of my favorite times of the year, the first week of NASCAR.
Hope this past week is an indication of whats in store for 2009. Good races all around from the Shoot-Out to the Duels on Thursday as well as the truck race last night.
Today the Nationwide Series kicks off and there are a number of new faces as well as old faces in new places. You would think the drivers championship would come down to Carl Edwards and Kyle Bush by the time November rolls around but this may be the year a series regular may come through. Brad Keselowski, Jason Leffler and Mike Bliss could make it interesting, and watch out for Brendan Gaughan driving for Rusty Wallace.
Not jumping in too deep on todays's race. Not alot of match-ups to my liking plus at Daytona you can crap out in a hurry if the big one happens.
Match-Ups
1.00 unit Jason Leffler (-130) over David Reutimann (@5dimes)
1.00 unit David Ragan ( -125) over David Reutimann (@5dimes)
Going with the combo over Reutimann here. Plate tracks have never been his forte, his last 5 here in NWS has resulted in an average finish of 25.2, never finishing in the Top 10 and finished on the lead lap in only 2 of those starts. Also he is making his first start for Braun Racing (driving on a part time basis).
Ragan (2 Top 10's in 4 starts) and Leffler (4 Top 10's in 9 starts and a 14.1 avg. finish) have better numbers here and more stability with their team.
1.00 unit Matt Kenseth (+100) over Carl Edwards (@5dimes)
Call this one a gut play more than anything else.
Kenseth has only started 3 of the last 10 NWS races here but has 2 Top 5's and an avg. finish of 7.3, 3rd best during that span. Edwards has 2 Top 5's in 8 starts during that same time.
Good luck to everyone.
